What We Build

Five Things
We Do Well In
Richmond.

We build the parts of a yard that do not grow. Paths, patios, drainage, and edging. No lawn care, no lawn maintenance, no tree removal. If that is what you need, we will point you somewhere good.

On a newer Richmond lot the first question is not what to build. It is whether the yard has finished moving yet.

Gravel & Step Stone Walkways In Richmond

Concrete step stones set level with 3.5 inches of black star gravel between them, edged in bender board. On a new lot it is also the build that tolerates a bit of settlement without cracking.

Paver Patios & Patio Extensions

Interlocking pavers over properly compacted base material. Builder slabs out here are usually the smallest square the plan allowed, so extending one is the most common patio job we do in Richmond.

French Drains & Yard Drainage

Inlets, pipe, and a grade that actually slopes toward the drain. On a new build we check what the builder already put in before we quote adding to it.

Driveway Extensions

Extra parking down the side of the drive. New builds come with two-car driveways and three-car households. We tell you in writing which builds are rated to be driven on.

Retaining Walls & Borders

Short walls, nothing that needs an engineer. Bender board and edging that gives a brand new yard an actual line between the beds and the grass.
New Build Yards

Worth Asking
Before You Pay Us.

Aliana, Harvest Green, Veranda and Grand Mission are still filling in, and a lot of Richmond yards are under three years old. That changes what is worth doing now, what is worth waiting on, and what might be worth a phone call first.
01
Call Them Before Us

The Warranty Window

If your home is newer it may still be under a builder warranty, and some builders cover grading or drainage for a period after closing. Terms vary, so it is worth reading yours before you pay anyone. If it turns out to be covered, that is a call worth making first.
02
Give It A Season

The Backfill Strip

The ground packed back in against a new foundation keeps settling after the house is finished. Anything rigid set into that strip too early goes down with it. Step stones in gravel handle it. A poured path does not.
03
Thinner Than It Looks

Sod Over Clay

New sod goes down over a thin layer of topsoil and then Fort Bend clay. The side yard, which gets the least sun and the most traffic, is the first place it gives up. That strip is usually the first thing worth hardscaping.
04
Find Out First

The Dip

That shallow dip running between your house and the neighbor's may be a drainage swale, put there to carry water out to the street. Worth confirming before anyone fills it with a raised bed. If that is what it is, the water does not go away. It goes toward whichever house sits lower.
If your home is fairly new and water is standing in the side yard, it may be worth checking your builder warranty before you call anyone at all. We cannot tell you what yours covers. It costs nothing to look, and we will still be here either way.

Possibly. Newer homes are often still under a builder warranty, and some builders cover grading or drainage for a period after closing. Terms vary quite a bit, so check your own paperwork or ask the builder directly before you pay anyone. If it is not covered, or the window has passed, that is when we are useful.

Straight away for step stones in gravel. That build sits on a compacted base and tolerates a bit of ground movement, which matters in the strip next to a new foundation where the backfill is still settling. For a large poured or paver surface hard against the house, waiting a season is the safer call and we will say so on the visit.

Depends what it actually is, and that is worth confirming before anyone touches it. On a lot of newer lots that shallow channel is a drainage swale, graded in to carry water out to the street. If that is what yours is, filling it tends to move the problem rather than solve it, usually toward whichever house sits lower, and some communities have rules about altering lot drainage on top of that. We look at it on the visit and tell you what we think we are dealing with. Where it is a swale, a path can run through without blocking it, and that is the version we would build.

Most likely. Richmond is largely master-planned and these communities run an architectural review for anything permanent going into the yard. We put the scope, the materials, and the dimensions in the quote so you have what the application asks for. Filing it stays with you as the owner, and we schedule around the approval.

We measure rather than guess, so the number comes off your yard. Step stones in black star gravel price below pavers over the same footprint. On a new build there is often less prep involved than on an established yard, because there is nothing to take out first. The visit is free and the quote is in writing within 24 hours.

No. Richmond is inside our regular service area and the site visit is free. Jobs are assigned by zone, so your project already has a crew on it before the quote goes out.

Under $5,000 it is 50% to schedule and 50% on completion after the final walkthrough. Over $5,000 it is 50% to schedule, 30% at the halfway mark, and 20% on completion. Same structure for every customer. The deposit reserves the crew, the date, and the materials.
