Driveway
Extensions.

Most driveway extensions we get called for are solving the same problem: cars parking on grass that turns to mud every time it rains. We build the extension on a proper compacted base so it drains, holds its shape, and doesn't turn into a mess six months later. Gravel or pavers, the base work is the same either way.

Three Ways to Widen a Driveway.

Option 01

Gravel Extension

A compacted base with a gravel surface, edged so it stays where we put it. This is the quickest way to get a car off the grass. Built for parking, not just walking.
Option 02

Interlocking Pavers

Pavers on a deeper base than a patio, with concrete along the outside edge so nothing spreads under a tire. It matches a paver patio or walkway and costs more than gravel. Worth it when you want the extension to look like part of the house.
Option 03

Concrete

A poured slab, broom finished for traction and sloped so water leaves. The right call when you want one continuous surface with the existing drive. We build them when they fit the yard. We don't lead with them.
Why Extensions Fail

The Tire Finds the Weak Spot.

A driveway extension carries weight a walkway never sees. Every time a car rolls on and off, the surface pushes down and the edge pushes out.

Gravel dumped on grass sinks into the mud by the second rain. Pavers on a shallow base rut where the tires sit. An extension that doesn’t tie into the existing drive leaves a lip that catches a bumper. All three are the same mistake: too little under it.

So we dig deeper than we would for a patio, about 8 to 9 inches against 6 to 7, with about 4 to 7 inches of compacted base, and lock the edge so nothing spreads. The tie-in to your existing driveway is cut and set flush, not left as a step.

If you’re getting quotes and nobody has asked what you’ll be parking on it, ask them.

Driveways We've Widened.

Paver, gravel, and stepping-stone work along the driveways we've widened. For the parking extensions, that means the car stays off the grass.
How We Build It

More Room.
No Mud.
Done In Days.

A driveway extension is dug deeper than a patio, about 8 to 9 inches, because a car puts far more weight on the surface than feet do. We install about 4 to 7 inches of compacted base, such as Stabilizer Base or decomposed granite, under the surface material. Then we build in a slight slope so water moves away from the house and toward a drainage area.

Site Prep & Base Work

Excavation about 8 to 9 inches deep, compacted aggregate base, and slope grading for proper drainage before any surface material goes down.

Border & Edging

Paver extensions get concrete along the outside edge so the edge pavers don't spread under a tire. Gravel extensions get an edging border to keep the material where it belongs.

Surface Install

Gravel filled and leveled, or pavers set by hand depending on the chosen material. Consistent depth and grade throughout.

Tie-In to Existing Driveway

The extension meets your existing surface cleanly. No raised edges, no gap, no trip hazard.

Final Grade & Cleanup

Finished surface graded for drainage, site swept clean, and reviewed together during a final walkthrough, where any concern is noted and fixed or scheduled.
